Here the battle of Lepanto took place, in which the united fleets of Spain, Venice and the Vatican routed the Ottomans and so regained control of the Mediterranean at least temporarily.
Hier fand die Schlacht von Lepanto statt, in der die vereinigten Flotten Spaniens, Venedigs und des Vatikans den Osmanen eine empfindliche Niederlage zufügten und so die Herrschaft über das Mittelmeer zumindest kurzzeitig wiedererlangten.
