!!!Abstimmungsgebiete

Abstimmungsgebiete (literally: voting areas), the border areas of
southern Carinthia and around Oedenburg contested after World
War I, in respect of which plebiscites were to be held. As
regards Carinthia, the plebiscite in the (northern) zone B, with
a predominantly German-speaking population, was called off when, on
October 10, 1920 the majority (59%) of inhabitants of the
southern zone A decided in favour of remaining within Austria in the
Carinthian Referendum). The plebiscite in the region around Oedenburg,
which was supervised (partly incorrectly) by Italy, on
December 14, 1921 resulted in a 64% majority in favour of
Hungary.
