!!!Althann, Adelsgeschlecht

Althan(n), noble family from Bavaria/Upper Austria (Altheim), settled 
in Austria in 1531. The A. family split into various lines (Frain, 
Murstetten), and was given the title of Bohemian count in 1609 and the 
hereditary title of imperial count in 1610. Figured prominently among 
the court nobility during the 17th/18th centuries. Important 
personalities belonging to the A. family, which still exists, include: 
Count Michael Adolf  Althan(n), Count Michael Johann  Althan(n) and 
Count Gundacker Ludwig  Althan(n).
