b. Brno, Czech Republic (then Bruenn), Feb. 12, 1851, 
d. Kramsach (Tyrol), Aug. 27, 1914, important political economist. 
University professor in Innsbruck and Vienna, 1911-1914 president of 
the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Together with K.  Menger von 
Wolfensgruen and F. Wieser founded the Austrian school of political 
economy ( Marginal Utility Theory ), developed the agio theory of 
interest. As Minister of Finance he introduced progressive income tax.
