Bad Gleichenberg, Styria, municipality in the district of Feldbach, 
alt. 317 m, pop. 2,161, area 13.69 km%%sup 2/%, main Styrian 
health resort (249,814 overnight stays) at the foot of Gleichenberg 
Mountain (598 m), therapy centre with thermal indoor pool 
(30° C, drinking and bathing cures for treatment of 
respiratory, stomach and circulatory diseases), office of the Economic 
Chamber, specialised health centre of the social insurance agency of 
farmers, spa park (Biedermeier), School of Tourism (hotel and catering 
schools), mineral water bottling, metal industry. The therapeutic 
carbon dioxide hot springs had already been used by the Romans. 1834 
foundation of a medicinal bath (Konstantin spring); church (1845) with 
high altar by J. Tunner, Gleichenberg ruin (palace from the 
14%%sup th/%  century, destroyed 1945), late Biedermeier mansions, 
Wickenburg villa (Classicistic style); Kapfenstein castle 10 km to the 
east.
