b. Valtice, Czech Republic (then Feldsberg), Jan. 20, 1760, 
d. Hietzing, Vienna, March 17, 1826, botanist, explorer, painter of 
plants. 1800 circumnavigated the globe and explored with M. Flinders 
Australian coastal areas (Botany Bay); Cape B. in the West of the Eyre 
peninsula was named after him. His extensive plant collection is on 
display in the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Animal and landscape 
drawings.
