Beck, Max Wladimir Freiherr von#
b. Vienna, Sept. 6, 1854, d. Vienna, Jan. 20, 1943, civil servant, statesman, teacher of jurisprudence and political sciences, later confidant of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, 1880-1906 civil servant in the Ministry of Agriculture, 1906-1908 Prime Minister. Implemented the 1907 reform of the Austrian electoral system (universal suffrage for men). 1907 member of the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat; 1915-1934 President of the Supreme Court of Audit, 1919-1938 president of the Austrian Red Cross.
