Mountain Guide, profession that has developed out of the alpine associations since 1862; exercised on a full-time or part-time basis, mostly by qualified skiing guides; designation, status etc. mostly defined by state law; training provided by the Bundesanstalt fuer Leibeserziehung (Federal School for Physical Education) in Innsbruck together with the "Verband der oesterreichischen Berg- und Skifuehrer" (Austrian Association of Mountain and Skiing guides).
