b. Vienna, April 27, 1883, 
d. Saratoga Springs (USA), Aug. 31, 1939, narrative writer and 
journalist. 1914-1918 war correspondent, then correspondent for the 
Berliner Tagblatt newspaper and contributions to Viennese newspapers. 
1938 emigration to the USA (Yaddo artists' colony). Made his name with 
books about Hollywood's movie world and with historical novels; his 
novel "Jungle Boat" ("Das Urwaldschiff", 1927) where travel account 
and fiction are intermingled, earned him his greatest success.
