Bernhardsthal, Lower Austria, market town in the district of 
Mistelbach, 166 m, 1872 inhabitants, 51.93 km%%sup 2/%. In 1878, three 
burial mounds dating from the  Hallstatt Culture with a diameter of 
20, 23 and 30 m and a height of 3,5 up to 4 m were excavated. A 
Germanic farmstead dating from the 1%%sup st/% -3%%sup rd/%  century 
A.D. and a Roman military camp from the seventies of the 2%%sup nd/%  
century have also been subject to archeological investigation. A small 
lead cross with arms of regular length dating from around 850 A.D. 
that was found in a grave bears witness to the activity of a Bavarian 
missionary.
