Berufsfoerderungsinstitut Oesterreich (Vocational Training Institute), 
BFI, founded in 1959 as a training institute by the Austrian 
Federation of Trade Unions (OeGB) and the Chamber of Labour (AK) as a 
non-profit making association; the eight branches in the provinces 
organise courses for professional retraining and additional training 
for employees as well as offering training courses and guidance for 
unemployed people. Certificates issued by the public schools and 
academies run by the BFI are recognised as vocational training 
certificates.
