Blaas, Carl von#
b. Nauders (Tyrol), April 28, 1815, d. Vienna, March 19, 1894, painter of historical pictures, Nazarene, father of Eugen B. (1843-1931) and Julius von B. (1845-1922), who were also famous painters; studied in Venice and under F. Overbeck in Rome; preference for religious themes, 1851 returned to Vienna, taught in Vienna and Venice; numerous public commissions.
Works#45 paintings for the hall of fame in the Imperial and Royal Museum of Arms, frescoes for the Altlerchenfelder church in Vienna and the church in Fót (Hungary).
