b. Rekingen (Switzerland), around 1610, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 2, 1567; physician, author of medical works. From 1556 
court physician of Emperor Ferdinand I in Vienna, appointed "Doctor of 
Court Servants" by Emperor Maximilian II in 1564. C. was known as the 
"herb doctor", integrated elements from  Paracelsus into his work, 
wrote a medical "Practica" (posthumous 1575) and two widespread 
astromedical works: "Kraeuterbuch" (1575) and "Von der Heilung 
zauberischer Schaeden" (1608).
