!!!Dax, Paul

b. Sterzing (South Tyrol), around 1503 (?), d. 1561. Soldier, 
cartographer and glass painter; survived the first Turkish siege of 
Vienna, participated in the defence of the Ehrenberg hermitage against 
Protestant troops in a civilian militia. As an artist, D. was 
commissioned mainly by the court in Innsbruck; he created flags and 
works in stained glass.
