b. Vienna, Sept. 5, 1883, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 23, 1967 musicologist. From 1928 professor; 1939 
emigrated to England until 1953; carried out important source research 
on Mozart and Schubert which is still very significant for musicology 
today; created the D(eutsch)-number index of F.  Schubert's works 
still in use today.
