Deutscher Turnerbund#
Deutscher Turnerbund (German Gymnastics Association), founded in 1889, when the previously existing (since 1861) gymnastics clubs were united into one organisation with German-Nationalist objectives and anti-Semitic orientation. Associated clubs (1918: 800) built gym halls in several towns. It was incorporated in the "Deutscher Reichsbund fuer Leibesuebungen" ("German National Association for Physical Exercise") in 1938 and dissolved in 1945. Its properties were taken over by the "Allgemeine Turnvereine" ("General Gymnastics Associations"), established in 1947, which merged to form the "Allgemeiner Sportverband" (General Sports Association).
