Deutschlandsberg, Styria, town in the district of Deutschlandsberg, 
alt. 368 m, pop. 7,760, area 24.44 km%%sup 2/%, on the River 
Lassnitz, at the bottom of the Koralpe mountains south-west of Graz, 
on what is called "Schilcher Weinstrasse" (wine road) from Ligist to 
Eibiswald. - District commission, district court, tax and surveying 
offices, employment services, office of the Styrian provincial 
government (department of agricultural engineering), road maintenance 
office, Chamber of Labour, Economic Chamber, district chamber of 
agriculture and forestry, vocational training institute (BFI), 
provincial health and social insurance office, hospital, day-care 
centre and workroom for the disabled, Koralm sports hall and stadium, 
sports ground, golf course, schools: Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium 
secondary school, commercial academy, federal commercial school, 
master-workmen's school of the Chamber of Labour, school of domestic 
science (in the Frauenthal Palace, built in 1675); approx. 50 % 
of the working population in services and production: electronics 
industry, wood processing (sawmills), 2 oil mills, printing works and 
publishing house ("Weststeirische Rundschau", local publication), 
western Styrian trade fair, wine-growing in the vicinity. - Town 
status since 1918; parish church (1688/1701), neoclassical town hall; 
Landsberg Castle (first documented in 1153, partly restored) was the 
centre of the western Styrian possessions of the Salzburg Archbishops, 
now prehistoric museum.
