geographer, geologist and palaeontologist, from 1897 professor at the 
University of Vienna; mainly concerned with biostratigraphy, esp. of 
the Triassic ammonites; also undertook expeditions to the Himalayas 
and other mountain ranges. Ed. of the Fossilium Catalogus I, 
Animalia (1913ff.).
