Donawitz, upper Styria, alt. 540 m, part of the city of Leoben, industrial estate in the Vordernberg Valley, centre of VOEST-Alpine (former Oesterreichisch-Alpine Montangesellschaft) with the VOEST-Alpine Schienen GmbH, VOEST-Alpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH and VOEST-Alpine Draht-Austria companies. - Mentioned as "Tumoiz" in 1155, Roman settlement (Roman sepulchral chapel, 3rd century, now in the Joanneum Museum in Graz), developed into the centre of heavy industry in Styria in the 19th century. - Parish church (1954).
