Ebelsberg, southern district of the city of Linz, on the right bank of 
the river Traun, Hiller barracks; old market place with Traun bridge 
(mentioned in 1215), in 1809 defended against the French (memorial 
column in the market square). In 1626 S.  Fadinger died in E. Castle 
(16%%sup th/%  century, first documented mention 1154; until 1803 
owned by the bishops of Passau) which is set on the steep Schiltenberg 
mountain overlooking the river Traun, gardens and gateway tower 
containing Roman stone remnants; prehistoric finds.
