d. Vienna, March 4, 1952, physicist, 1911-1938 university professor in 
Vienna; fled Austria in 1938, returning in 1945; professor and head of 
the 1st Institute of Physics at the University of Vienna from 1946. 
Valuable contributions to the field of atomic physics and experimental 
charge measurement; groundbreaking research on the optical behaviour 
of metal colloids.
