Elbigenalp, Tirol, municipality in the district of Reutte, alt. 
1,039 m, pop. 819, area 33.09 km%%sup 2/%, oldest settlement 
and bi-seasonal tourist centre (141,373 overnight stays) in Lechtal 
valley, at the mouth of Bernhardbach stream, at the foot of 
Hornbachkette mountains. - Vocational boarding school for sculpture 
and crafts, private training workshops and carving courses; Falger 
Museum (A. Falger, painter and lithographer) located in the municipal 
administration building. Production of compact discs and gramophone 
records; production and marketing of wood-carvings (Lechtal 
wood-carving co-operative). - Parish church built around 1300, rebuilt 
in Baroque style in 1674, Gothic baptismal font (15%%sup th/%  
century) and frescoes (1776) by J. J. Zeiller, St. Martin´s 
chapel with Gothic frescoes (1489) and Dance of Death paintings by A. 
Falger (around 1830), houses with fa¸ade paintings (18%%sup th/% 
 and 19%%sup th/%  centuries). The story of "Geierwally" (Anna 
Steiner-Knitel, 1841-1915; drama by F.  Mitterer, Kulturtage - 
cultural festival) is set in Elbigenalp.
