Escherich, Gustav von#

b. Mantova, Italy (then Mantua), June 1, 1849, d. Vienna, Jan. 28, 1935, mathematician, 1879 became professor of mathematics at the University of Chernovtsy, then at the University of Technology in Graz and at the University of Vienna from 1884 (rector, 1903/04). Along with E. Weyr, in 1890 E. established the "Monatshefte fuer Mathematik und Physik" (monthly journal on mathematics and physics), heading the editorial office until he was made professor emeritus in 1920.
