b. Vienna, March 7, 1850, d. Lovran (Croatia), April 7, 1909, writer, wife of Siegmund Exner-Ewarten; did not begin writing until she was 45, wrote mainly about women's problems but viewed the more extensive demands of the women's movement with reserve; E.'s work was groundbreaking for women's education; also served as president of the Viennese Association of Working Women (1901-1906).
