Fuegen, Tirol, municipality in the district of Schwaz, alt. 545m, pop. 
2,918, area 6.64 km%%sup 2/%, bi-seasonal tourist resort (389,702 
overnight stays) and chief town of the lower Ziller valley, situated 
at the foot of Kellerjoch mountain (alt. 2,344m). - Forestry services 
for avalanche and flood prevention, cableway to Spieljoch mountain; 
timber processing (panels, furniture), glass-cutting shop, printing 
shop. - First documented mention 1130-1140; Gothic parish church, 
altar around 1330, nave from 1447 to 1497; remnants of a Gothic 
painting series (14%%sup th/%  century); high altar with late Gothic 
reliefs and statues; late Gothic church in Fuegenberg; Baroque 
pilgrimage church of Marienbergl (1715-1721); Fuegen Castle (around 
1550, rebuilt around 1695-1702). At Kleinboden a hammer-mill dating 
from the 19%%sup th/%  century has been preserved; museum of local 
history.
