Fuerstenspiegel, writings giving guidance to young princes concerning conduct, ethics and discharge of office; these works also dealt with issues of state and society. Wide-spread in the Middle Ages, in Austria only Engelbert von Admont (Speculum virtutum moralium, 1298) and E. S. Piccolomini (De liberorum educatione, 1450) were of significance.
