!!!Fichtel, Leopold von

b. Sibiu, Romania (then Hermannstadt), 1770, 
d. Vienna, March 18, 1810, one of the founders of micropaleontology in 
Austria. During several journeys to Europe and East India F. collected 
shells, snails and insects for the natural history collection of the 
court, the "Hofnaturalien-Cabinett". On behalf of the emperor he 
acquired 210 exhibits of the James Cook Collection in London.
