Fixlmüller, Placidus auch Fixlmillner#
b. Achleiten Palace (municipality of Kematen an der Krems, Upper Austria), May 28, 1721, d. Kremsmuenster (Upper Austria), Aug. 27, 1791, astronomer; nephew of Alexander Fixlmueller. From 1759 head of the observatory at the Mathematischer Turm (Mathematics Tower) of Kremsmuenster Abbey. Known as the founder of modern astronomy in Austria (together with M. Hell). F. calculated the orbit of Uranus, improved astronomical instruments, and invented simpler formulae for astronomical calculations.
