d. Vienna, Sept. 2, 1997, psychiatrist, neurologist. 1936-1942 
specialist in psychiatry in Vienna; until 1945 detention in various 
concentration camps; 1946-1970 head of the Department of Neurology at 
the Allgemeine Poliklinik hospital in Vienna; from 1955 Professor of 
Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Vienna; guest 
professorships in the USA; from 1970 Professor of Logotherapy at San 
Diego International University. Founder of logotherapy and existential 
analysis, which aims at helping patients find a meaning in life.
