Frei, Bruno eigentlich Benedikt Freistadt, Pseudonym Karl Franz#

Frei, Bruno (real name: Benedikt Freistadt, pseudonym: Karl Franz), b. Bratislava, Slovakia (then Pressburg), June 11, 1897, d. Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria), May 21, 1988, journalist and author. At first worked for a newspaper in Vienna, the "Abend", and edited "Berlin am Morgen" from 1929. While in exile was co-founder of the exile magazine "Freies Deutschland". Returned to Vienna in 1947 and published the "Oesterreichisches Tagebuch" together with E. Fischer. In his numerous works he expressed his objection to fascism and his support of peace and social justice.
