Geneva Conventions: 1) Red Cross Conventions on the Protection of the 
Wounded, Prisoners of War and Civilian Persons in Time of War, first 
signed on August 22, 1864; new version passed on July 6, 1906; the Red 
Cross was enshrined in international law by the G. C. on July 27, 
1929; the protection of the victims of war including civilian persons 
was concluded in a convention on August 12, 1949.

2) Convention on Refugees of July 8, 1951, defines the term refugee 
and governs refugee status.
