Goldmark, Karl, b. Keszthely (Hungary), May 18, 1830, 
d. Vienna, Jan. 2, 1915, composer. Violinist and music teacher. Began 
as a violinist at the Vienna Carltheater; autodidactic studies of 
music theory from 1858-1960 in Budapest, first success in 1865 with 
his Sakuntala overture, international breakthrough in 1875 with the 
opera "the Queen of Sheba". 1866 honorary member of the Gesellschaft 
der Musikfreunde in Vienna, in 1896 awarded the Knight's Cross of the 
Order of Leopold. Great supporter of R. Wagner (founding member of the 
Academic Wagner Association in Vienna).

1896; "Die Kriegsgefangenen", 1899; "Goetz von
