Greil, Alois, b. Linz (Upper Austria), March 27, 1841, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 12, 1902, genre painter and illustrator; 
descended from a family of Tyrolean artists, studied at the Vienna 
Academy of Fine Arts under C. Ruben. 1868/69 illustrator in Stuttgart, 
in Vienna from 1873. Famous for his folkloric depictions, favourite 
subjects were humorous scenes of soldier life.
