Guldin, Paul (Habakuk), b. St. Gallen (Switzerland), June 12, 1577, 
d. Graz (Styria), Nov. 3, 1643, mathematician. Originally 
Protestant, converted to Catholicism and became a Jesuit in 1597. 
Studied sciences under Christopher Clavius in Rome from 1609, became 
professor for mathematics at the University of Graz in 1616 and also 
taught in Vienna for a short time. Argued with Bonaventura Cavalieri 
about the Cavalieri Principle; contributions to the problem of content 
(Guldin Theorem).
