Herzmanovsky-Orlando, Fritz von#
b. Vienna, April 30, 1877, d. Rametz Palace (South Tyrol), May 27, 1954, narrative writer, dramatist and artist. Studied architecture in Vienna; from 1903 until the end of his life friendship with A. Kubin, influenced by the anti-rationalist and mystical thoughts of Kubin and his friends. 1916 moved to Merano, where in 1917 wrote the bizarre grotesque Biedermeier novel "Der Gaulschreck im Rosennetz" (1928 published with illustrations by H. himself) as the first volume of a "Europe" trilogy, the second and third volumes of the trilogy (1989, "Das Maskenspiel der Genien" and 1984 "Rout am fliegenden Hollaender") were published posthumously. Became famous only after his "Gesammelte Werke " in 4 volumes were revised and edited by F. Torberg 1957-1963 .
