Jaffe, Max, b. Schwerin (Germany), July 27, 1845, d. Vienna, 
Dec. 14, 1939, photographer, writer on photography as well as arts and 
craft. Studied in Paris and Hamburg, from 1869 lived in Vienna, where 
he worked for J.  Loewy and founded an institute for photo engraving 
in 1876. Teacher at the Graphic School and Research Institute, editor 
of the magazine "Die Photographie" and founding member of the 
Oesterreichischer Werkbund.
