Jugendschutz#
Juveniles, Protection of: Under Art. 15 of the Austrian constitution, the establishment of legal measures for the protection of juveniles and children falls under provincial jurisdiction. After historical forerunners, to be found in absolutism ("Policeypatente"), these have been laid down in provincial youth protection laws from 1922 on, with varying age limits: restrictions on children and juveniles being out without adult supervision after certain times and in certain places (public places, restaurants and pubs, hotels, theatres, dances open to the public, etc.), age restrictions on films, a ban on gambling, as well as restrictions on smoking and drinking alcohol in public, hitch-hiking, and the use of fireworks.
