Kallir, Otto eigentlich O. Nirenstein#

b. Vienna, April 1, 1894, d. New York (USA), Nov. 30, 1978, art historian, art dealer, publisher. Studied at the University of Technology in Vienna; in 1919 founded the publishing house "Neue Graphik" in Vienna, in 1922 the "Neue Galerie", also in Vienna (until 1938), and in 1923 the "Johannes Press" (Vienna and New York), whose publications include the graphical work of E. Schiele, O. Kokoschka, A. Kubin and M. Beckmann; organised exhibitions (V. van Gogh) and published books by T. Mann and H. von Hofmannsthal. 1939 emigration to the United States. Chairman of the Austro-American League and owner of the St. Etienne gallery in New York, with special focus on Austrian and German expressionist artists and American Naive Painting. 1940-1963 founded American Views Inc. and re-established Johannes Press, New York, which published R. M. Rilke amongst others.
