Kindberg#

Kindberg, Styria, town in the district of Muerzzuschlag, alt. 565 m, pop. 6,078, area 41.49 km2, old centre of the iron industry and economic centre of the Muerztal Valley. - District Commission (branch agency), district court, post of the forestry commission, sports centre, centre for physiotherapy, "Lebenshilfe" social centre, Bundes-Oberstufen-Realgymnasium (upper-level secondary school), power station; 3,151 people gainfully employed in 1991, around 64 % in the production sector: tubular steel construction (VOEST Alpine), communication engineering (sheet metal working and galvanic station) and manufacture of precision machined metal parts. Documented mention as "Chindeberch" around 1172; iron industry since the 14th  century, manufacture of scythes from the 18th  century; chartered in 1982. Gothic parish church (1773-1774) with Baroque alterations; wall paintings in 1948; surrounded by the remains of a fortified wall from the Middle Ages; Calvary with church (1674-1686); St. George´s church built in Gothic and Baroque styles; Baroque Oberkindberg Palace (built before1680, altered in 1773-1774, since 1980 museum of mining and local culture and history), stucco ceilings; Castle Hart (1523); Kindtal mine owner´s mansion (18th  century castle).
