Kinderdörfer#
Children´s Villages are social institutions with small home-like units for children in a village on the model of Swiss children´s villages. The Austrian Association of Children´s Villages Pro Juventute was founded in Salzburg in 1947. In 1949 H. Gmeiner founded the SOS-Kinderdoerfer. The society of Austrian children´s villages founded in 1958 is responsible for the A. Afritsch children´s village in Steinberg near Graz and another children´s village in Poettsching in Burgenland. The CaritasCatholic organisation is in charge of the children´s village St. Isidor in Leonding near Linz. The Voralberg children´s village (in Bregenz since 1977) was formerly a holiday home and became a children´s village in 1951.
