b. Tiffen (Carinthia), March 23, 1878,
d. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), Oct. 1, 1943, Benedictine monk, painter,
sculptor and wood cutter. From 1899 to 1932 member of the Benedictine
convent of St. Paul (Carinthia), studied from 1904 to 1908 at the
Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, then taught drawing at the collegiate
grammar school and was local forest superintendent. From 1917 created
monumental wall paintings and frescoes as well as wood cuts. After
leaving the convent lived as a freelance artist.
Works: Frescoes in Klagenfurt, Moellbruecke, Spittal an der Drau (all
in Carinthia), Bad Gastein (Province of Salzburg). Illustrations for
poetry. - Das L.-Buch, 1940 (autobiography).
