From 1646 onwards Duke of Sagan, was confidant of Emperor Leopold I and had great influence. 1669 to 1874 Director of the Cabinet, collaborated behind the emperor's back with France (in 1671 concluded a treaty on neutrality disadvantageous to Austria), which occasioned his fall.
