!!!Meister des Znaimer Altars

Meister des Znaimer Altars, wood-carver, came to Vienna probably from
Southern Germany, worked in Vienna around 1440/50. Named after the
large winged altar created for the church of St. Wenceslav at Znaim
around 1440. The altar shows scenes from the Passion of Christ and is
now kept at the Oesterreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna. The work
is remarkable for its coarse realism, the ruthless, drastic gestures
of the figures and the scenic composition of the relief. The outer
wings of the altar show Passion scenes from the Viennese workshop of
the Meister des Friedrichsaltars (Master of the altar of Friedrich).
