Metzner, Franz#
b. Všeruby, Czech Republic (then Wscherau near Plzen (Pilsen)), Nov. 18, 1870, d. Berlin (Germany), March 24, 1919, sculptor. Apprenticeship as a stonemason, after first successes with ceramics in 1894 created sketches for the Royal Manufacture of Porcelain in Berlin. 1903-1907 taught at the Vienna College of Commercial Art, later again in Berlin. Stylistically between art nouveau, symbolism and expressionism. Created numerous monuments (including "Battle of Nations monument" at Leipzig, 1906).
