Oberalm, province of Salzburg, market town in the district of Hallein, 
alt. 452 m, pop. 3,546 (1981: pop. 2,988), area 
6.39 km%%sup 2/%, north of Hallein. - Winklhof College of 
Domestic Science and Agricultural Studies with dairy and cheese 
factory (Landwirtschaftliche Fach- und laendliche 
Hauswirtschaftsschule Winklhof), Hammer transformer station and power 
plant; beverage industry, processing of marble and stone. - First 
documented mention as early as the 8%%sup th/%  century as well as 
1192. Gothic parish church with high altar (1707) and statues of 
saints by J. G. Mohr, marble pulpit in late Gothic style and 
tombstones with heraldic images; former brass hammer mill (est. in 
1585, reconstruction 19%%sup th/%  century); 17%%sup th/%  century 
burghers' houses (town centre). In the surrounding area Haunsperg 
Castle (around 1600, now a hotel), Kahlsperg Castle (reconstruction 
15%%sup th/%  century, now a retirement home) and Winkl Castle (around 
1500, now a school). Filzhofguetl culture centre.
