Richter, Josef (pseudonym: Eipeldauer, Obermayr, Pater Hilarion), b. Vienna, March 16, 1749, 
d. Vienna, June 16, 1813, writer during the Enlightenment under Joseph 
II, wrote humorous folkloristic and popular texts in stylized dialect, 
in which he described Viennese manners and customs. His periodical 
"Briefe eines Eipeldauers an seinen Herrn Vetter in Kakran ueber 
d´Wienstadt" (from 1785,  Eipeldauer-Briefe) which paints a 
particularly interesting picture of the time and place and is an 
important source of cultural history about old Vienna.
