Rundfunk, Österreichischer, Ges. m. b. H#

Rundfunk, Oesterreichischer, Ges. m. b. H. (ORF), a broadcasting corporation established in December 11, 1957 and, since January 1, 1958, the sole company with a license to broadcast radio and television programmes in Austria. The establishment of the Oesterreichischer Rundfunk Ges. m. b. H. brought an end to the provisional broadcasting stations set up after the end of World War II. The federal government held a 97.3 % and the provinces a 2.7 % interest. As the important positions were divided up according to a political proportion scheme and the programming was clearly politically biased, the broadcasting corporation came under fire from critics claiming it was subject to undue political influence and favouritism. As a result of the popular initiative ( Rundfunkvolksbegehren) of 1964 as well as the Broadcasting Act of 1966, significant reforms were implemented ( ORF).
