Sattler, Johann Michael#

Sattler, Johann Michael, b. Herzogenburg (Lower Austria), Sept. 28, 1786, d. Mattsee (Salzburg), Sept. 28, 1847, painter. Studied at the Vienna Academy, worked in Salzburg from 1819. His main work is a gigantic panorama (5 m in diameter) of the city of Salzburg, created 1825-1829, (assisted by F. Loos and J. J. Schindler), presenting a complete view of the city and of the surrounding areas with utmost topographic accuracy. S. exhibited this in many European cities; it can now be seen in the lift arrival hall at Moenchsberg mountain. His son Hubert S. (1817-1904) was also a painter, he created e.g. "cosmoramas" of Paris, London, Vienna and New York.

altarpiece "Hl. Familie" in St. Sebastian´s Church in Salzburg; landscapes and portraits in the Salzburg museum Carolino Augusteum and in the Hotel Braeu in Lofer.
