Spital am Semmering#
Spital am Semmering, Styria, municipality in the district of Muerzzuschlag, alt. 778 m, pop. 2,168, area 72.59 km2, bi-seasonal tourist resort (106,764 overnight stays) on the Froeschnitzbach stream, on the Styrian side of the Semmering Pass. - Children´s home, recreation home of the Association of War Victims and the Private Employees' Union; trading and manufacturing companies. Owes its origin to the hospital founded by Margrave Otakar III in 1160. - Gothic parish church (with Romanesque core, façade altered in neo-Gothic style) with Gothic portals, choir fresco (at the end of the 15th century) and splendid high altar (around 1630-1640); in the vicinity of the so-called "Raeuberhoehle" ("Robbers´ Cave").
