Vesque von Puettlingen, Johann (pseudonym: J. Hoven), b. Opole, Poland (then Oppeln), July 23, 1803, d. Vienna, Oct. 30, 1883, composer, civil servant. Ennobled in 1866. In 1876 member of the Herrenhaus (Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat); especially successful as an opera composer. His house was one of the musical centres of Vienna. His book "Das musikalische Autorenrecht" (1864) is considered the beginning of musical copyright in Austria.
